Anaktuvuk Pass has been short on fuel for a week. Locals say the village shortage on fuel caused homes to have no heat during freezing temperatures. Last Friday they declared an emergency to carry fuel by land, and some delivered by air, but they still remain low. The city mayor says they’re not out of the fire. A plane tasked with delivering fuel had mechanical issues, which led to fuel shortage for the 150,000 gas tank. Regen said school was canceled because there were no gas vehicles to pick them up for school and it was too cold to walk to school. Regen said the borough was estimated at 18,500 gallons of diesel and 20 drums of unleaded gasoline. In the long term, borough officials said they were designing a 250,000 thousand gallon tank for the village to expand storage capacity.
