In 2024, Alex Consani madeded history by becoming the first transgender model to win Model of the Year. This was a gargantuan moment not just for her, but for the whole fashion world. Her win showed how much things have changed and how far we’ve come, thanks to all of the brave trans models before her who worked VERY hard to be seen and accepted.
Long before Alex, other trans models opened the door. In the 1970s, Tracey Africa Norman was the first Black trans model to be in big beauty ads. But when people found out she was trans, she lost her job… (likee what the frick is wrong with yawll 😤😤🤬🤬🙄🙄!!!) In the UK, models like April Ashley and Caroline Cossey were also outed as trans and lost their careers. In the 2010s, Lea T became one of the first openly trans models in big fashion shows, working with brands like Givenchy and being in Vogue magazine. These women helped change the diva fashion world, even though they NEVER got the respect they deserved.
Back in the ancient days, it was really hard for trans women to be models because odd weird PEOPLE were very close-minded and unfair like the pathetic losers they were. Most modeling agencies didn’t want to hire them just because they were trans🙄, and they were scared of how the public would react. Some trans women had to hide who they were just to get a chance at modeling. Even if they did get jobs, they were often treated badly or only hired as a “token” to seem diverse. There weren’t many laws or rules to protect them, and they could face bullying, harassment, or worse. The fashion world only wanted a certain look and didn’t accept people who didn’t fit into their idea of “normal.”
ALEX CONASANI!!!! started modeling when she was only 12 or 13. She was discovered by Slay Model Management, an agency that works with trans talent. She also became popular on TikTok by posting funny, creative videos. Her mix of amazing humor and confidence helped her stand out. Later, she signed with IMG Models and walked in big fashion shows like Versace, Alexander McQueen, and Victoria’s Secret because she gotted what she deserved for being such an amazing icon diva trans baddie. When Alex won Model of the Year, it was the first time a trans model had ever won that award ever!!! It was a HUGE step for trans people in fashion. Alex had said that she looks up to Black trans women and wants the fashion world to be more inclusive, as they should’ve been this whole time lieekkkk… Her win is important because it shows that trans beauty and talent are finally being recognized!!
